Zhongshan Warship relics
|
A famous unsinkable vessel
Originally named Yongfeng Vessel, it was built in 1913 and listed
into the first fleet of Republic of China naval force. After the 1911
Revolution, the vessel not only made great contribution to the campaign
against Yuan Shikai led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, but also played a decisive
role in the battle against Chen Jiongming¡¯s rebellion. In 1925, after
Dr. Sun passed away, the vessel was named after him. In the 1938 battle
of safeguarding Wuhan against Japanese aggression, after a fierce
fighting against Japanese warplanes, the warship sank into the Yangtze
River. It was salvaged successfully in 1997. Currently, it has been
rehabilitated and provided for sightseeing by visitors from home and
abroad.
