  报告一:

  报告人:Weijia JIA , Professor

Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong

题目:AnyServer: Next Generation Wireless Communication Platform

  Abstract:

This talk discusses an efficient design and implementation of AnyServer: Next Generation
Wireless Communication Platform which contains 3G, WiFi , WiMAX and Internet. In particular, the control and multiplexing protocols H.245 and H.223 are key parts of 3G-324M protocol stack, for mobile wireless video conferencing. Our implementations aim to support the multi-point video conferencing with the capability of transmitting/receiving multiple video/audio streams simultaneously. Conference managements such as admission control, video/audio channel management are also discussed. The implementation improves efficiency and makes the setting up and operation of the conference more convenient. Our prototype system is stable and its performance is satisfactory.

  Biography:

Weijia Jia received his BSc, MSc, from Center South University, China and PhD from Polytechnic Faculty of Mons, Belgium, all in computer science. He joined German National Research Center for Information Science (GMD) in St. Augustin in 1993 as a research fellow. Since 1995, he joined the Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong as a faculty. His research interests include wireless communication and networks, distributed systems, multicast and anycast QoS routing protocols for Internet and wireless communications. In these fields, he has published more than 200 papers and books/chapters in the international journals and conference proceedings. He has been the Principal-Investigator of more than 20 research projects supported by RGC Research Grants, Hong Kong and Strategic Research Grants, CityU. He has served as PC co-chairs and PC members for various IEEE international conferences. He is a member of the IEEE. Recently he is awarded HK$10 millions from Hong Kong Government and matching fund to develop the Next Generation Wireless Communication Platform.

报告题目:Cooperative Caching in Mobile Peer-to-Peer Systems over MANET

  Abstract:

Data dissemination and sharing among peer nodes in a mobile P2P network is an important problem and has many applications. However, developing high performance techniques for data transmission in a peer-to-peer system over a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a difficult task. Cooperative caching can be used as an effective means to improve the availability and scalability in data sharing and dissemination as well as to reduce the network traffic and query delay. In this talk, I will address the major issues of cooperative caching such as placement, discovery, and consistency. In particular, I will present our research on caching consistency, which has not been adequately addressed for MANETs. I will describe a framework which provides a basis for designing, analyzing and evaluating existing cache invalidation strategies, and then propose a relay peer based cache consistency maintenance strategy that is able to provide a generic and flexible method to carry out the cache invalidation.
