报告摘要:
High-quality content distribution, nowadays often in video format, is one of the main applications of the Internet and everyone's daily life. Peer-assisted video streaming has attracted a lot of attention in the academia and industry due to its superior promise of scalability, i.e., by leveraging the computing, communication and storage resources from participating peers to relieve the server and network from overload. However, although there are many successful peer-assisted content distribution systems around, how to explore their full potential and deliver their full promise is still a challenging problem. In particular, service providers and network operators have to deal with the huge diversity in terms of access links, video sources and user dynamics. In this talk, we will briefly introduce the peer-assisted video streaming systems, and focus on the issues with network address translation, high-definition videos and flash-crowd behaviors. Through modeling, analysis and performance evaluation, we show that with a little bit coordination among service providers, network operators and end users, it is possible to have a better performance for everyone. We conclude by discussing some further challenges in peer-assisted content distribution systems.
